Hunger
Students are learning about hunger on a global and local scale. Watching and discussing the documentary"Flow", listening to first hand stories about hunger, listening to songs, exploring calorie intake, defining famine and hunger and much more. This class is about the root causes of hunger AND about how each individual can make a difference. Ask your students about the story, "The Starfish" and ask them what they are doing to make a difference!
Literature Circle: Rights of Passage
Our class has just completed the book Homeless Bird, a poignant story of a young woman's "growing up" experience in India. We will be working on projects for the next two weeks or so. Projects range from building a class shrine, to cooking and eating Indian foods introduced in the book. The class worked together to sew a Sari and we are identifying and translated over 40 Hindi words from the book. Please remember to ask your students about these projects. Next book to be introduced soon.
